Who Needs a Self Assessment Tax Return?
You must report any income you have received in a financial period to HMRC by filing a Self Assessment tax return, if any of the following applies to you:
- You are Self Employed or a sole trader and earn over £1000
- You have a side hustle as well as a job
- You earn a wage through your business, but also receive dividends
- You earn money elsewhere, for example rental income
