Accountancy support in Blantyre

About our support for businesses in Blantyre

Blantyre, next door to Hamilton and best known as the birthplace of David Livingstone, is a few miles from our office in Larkhall. If you run a business in Blantyre and would rather spend your evenings on something other than paperwork, we can take the bookkeeping, payroll and tax off your plate.

Accountancy support for Blantyre businesses

A lot of Blantyre businesses are trades and services run from home or a small unit: joiners, electricians, cleaners, childminders, salons and shops. The admin is the same as for a bigger business, just with fewer hands to do it. We make sure the records are right, the returns go in on time and you know what tax to expect.

Hislop Business Solutions is run by Michelle Hislop, an AAT licensed accountant with more than 15 years in accountancy and over 8 years of hands-on payroll experience. You deal with Michelle directly, and you should never feel like you are bothering her with a question.

What we help Blantyre businesses with

  • Bookkeeping and accounting software: accurate, organised records in QuickBooks or FreeAgent, with the software set up properly from the start.
  • Payroll: pay runs, payslips, new starters and leavers, pensions and HMRC submissions handled on time.
  • VAT returns: the right scheme, tidy records and returns submitted before the deadline.
  • Self Assessment: tax returns for sole traders, directors, landlords and anyone with other income.
  • Making Tax Digital: MTD-compatible software and quarterly updates, explained in plain English.
  • Training and assistance: one-to-one help so you can run as much of your own bookkeeping as you want to.
  • Customer support services: quotes, customer contact and feedback handled for you when you are busy doing the work.

  2. We make things clear

We explain what needs handled, recommend the right level of support and agree a simple monthly arrangement.

  3. We take care of the detail

Your records, returns and payroll are kept organised and on track, and you are kept updated as we go.

  4. You focus on your business

Get back to running the company knowing the accounting side is handled by someone who cares.

Ask a question
Do you only work with businesses near Larkhall?

No. We are based in Larkhall and regularly meet clients across South Lanarkshire and the wider Lanarkshire area, and we support businesses throughout Scotland and the UK remotely. Cloud bookkeeping in QuickBooks or FreeAgent means we both see the same live figures wherever you are.

Can we meet in person?

Yes. You are welcome at our office at 119 John Street, Larkhall on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday between 08:30 and 17:30, and evening or weekend appointments can be arranged. For businesses across Lanarkshire we can also come to your premises by arrangement. Phone, video and email work well for everything in between.

I already have an accountant. Is switching difficult?

Usually not. Once you decide to move, we contact your previous accountant for professional clearance and the handover of your records, and we tell you exactly what we need from you. The initial consultation is free, so you can talk it through before committing to anything.

Which accounting software do you support?

We are QuickBooks ProAdvisor and FreeAgent Accredited Practitioner certified, so those are the packages we recommend and support day to day. If you already use something else, tell us what it is and we will let you know how we can work with it.

What happens at the free consultation?

We talk about your business: what you do, how you invoice and get paid, whether you have staff, and what is currently causing you the most hassle. We then recommend the right level of support and agree a simple monthly price, with no pressure either way.
