When people attend business training courses, they usually do so to learn new skills, gain knowledge, and find ways to grow their business.
The outcome they don’t expect is to build relationships, that have a lasting impact on their professional journey.
A great example of this is my relationship with Steve Boylan, owner of Dead or Alive Technology.
I first met Steve while attending a Business Gateway training course. We were both there to learn, develop our businesses, and invest in ourselves. During the course, we got chatting, exchanged contact details, and learned a little about what each other did.
At the time, neither of us knew that a simple conversation would turn into a long-term professional partnership.
A Dropped Phone and a Timely Reminder
Not long after the training course, disaster struck.
I dropped my phone. It was my business phone, the screen was cracked and I couldn’t really use it.
Like many people, my first thought was, “Who can help me fix this?” Rather than searching online, I looked through the contacts I’d made and remembered that Steve specialised in technology repairs.
I contacted him and he reassuring said, he could help and to just bring the phone along to the shop.
What started as a phone repair quickly turned into a business conversation. While discussing the issue with my device, Steve mentioned that he was looking for an accountant. As we talked more about our respective businesses, it became clear that we could help each other.
That conversation marked the beginning of a working relationship that continues to this day.
More Than Just Device Repairs
Since getting to know Steve and working with him as a client, I’ve seen first-hand the level of knowledge, professionalism, and customer care he brings to his business.
Dead or Alive Technology provides a wide range of technology services for both individuals and businesses, including computer, laptop, smartphone, tablet and games console repairs, as well as business IT support, managed services, remote support, hardware solutions and cyber security services.
What stands out to me is Steve’s approach. Technology can be overwhelming for many people, particularly when something stops working or begins affecting a business. Steve has a way of explaining technical issues in plain English, helping customers understand their options and making sure they receive the right solution for their needs.
In a world where many businesses rely heavily on technology, having someone trustworthy at the end of the phone is invaluable.
Supporting Each Other’s Growth
One of the things I love most about running my own business is seeing the people around me grow and develop their businesses too.
Steve has trusted me to support him with his accounting needs, and he supports me with my IT and security needs. More recently I’ve turned to him for additional support as my own business continues to grow.
As Hislop Business Solutions expands and welcomes a new member of staff, I needed help putting together the right hardware and software package to ensure everything was properly set up from day one.
There was only one person I thought of contacting, Steve.
Knowing that Dead or Alive Technology is handling the technology side of things gives me complete peace of mind. It allows me to focus on supporting my clients and growing the business, safe in the knowledge that our IT setup is in capable hands.
The Unexpected Value of Business Training
Looking back, it’s amazing to think that this professional relationship began simply because we both attended a Business Gateway training course.
That one course led to:
- A valuable business connection
- A repaired phone when I needed help
- A new accounting client
- An ongoing professional partnership
- A trusted IT provider supporting the growth of my business
It’s a reminder that the value of training isn’t only found in the lessons being taught.
Sometimes the biggest opportunities come from the people you meet, the conversations you have, and the relationships you build along the way.
Thank You, Steve
Steve, thank you for your continued support, trust, and expertise.
It’s been a pleasure working together, and I’m looking forward to seeing Dead or Alive Technology continue to grow and help even more individuals and businesses across the local area and beyond.
